We love this mixed media piece by Gail Spencer Saour. Titled Vignette #15, it is a mix of acrylic and collage. We found it at one of our favorite spots, the Torpedo Factory (a munitions-factory-turned-art-collective and a must-visit if you are in the Washington, DC or Old Town Alexandria, Virginia area).
To us, the beauty of this piece lies in its balance. Its subtle use of texture. Its play of light and dark. Its restrained but thoughtful use of color. Layers of moody greys, teal and crimson join planes of pastel pink and blue effortlessly. It is playful, strong and quiet.
The perfect mix.
